Keep Students and Teachers Happy and Healthy

Keep students and faculty happy and healthy this year through proper cleaning procedures. Dirty schools = sick people. Did you know that 22 million school days are lost annually due to the common cold and 38 million to the flu. The cost is significant both socially and economically. It is important to clean not just for appearance but also kill germs through proper disinfection. Pike Systems gives schools the framework to objectively assess the effectiveness of their cleaning processes. It is also important for schools to spread good hygiene processes through proper hand washing.

Cleaning Tip: Clean Restroom Vent Fans

Often overlooked in bathroom management and cleanliness, the vent fans in restrooms rarely get cleaned.  Commonly, vent fans are neglected to the point of unsightly dust buildup. Depending on the extent of the dust, there are a few different methods that can be put in place to clean vent fans.

  1. The quickest and easiest method is to use an extension arm on your vacuum’s dusting brush attachment to vacuum the vent cover
  2. If your vacuum does not have an extension arm, you can purchase a can of “canned air” – the same type you would use to clean computer keyboards- to clean the dust out of the vent. Just make sure that the fan is off.
  3. If vacuuming and “canned air” are not sufficient enough to remove dust, you will need to remove and clean with a liquid cleaner
