Campaign for Updated Safety Data

In March 2012, OSHA revised the Hazard Communication Standard to be consistent with the United Nations Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals. By June 15th, 2015 all chemicals will need to follow the GHS compliance for labeling. Pike Systems will work with all of our chemical suppliers regarding GHS compliance for both labels and SDSs. Pike Systems recommends not to update anything before the June 15th deadline in order to ensure the proper labels and SDS reports are acquired.

GHS Compliant labels must have the following minimum information:

  • Product Identifier
  • Signal Word
  • Hazard Statements
  • Pictograms
  • Precautionary Statements
  • Name, address and phone number of manufacturer, importer or other responsible parties

The following labels are exempt from GHS label compliance:

  • Hard surface disinfectants and sanitizers (EPA registered products) – EPA has not adapted GHS compliance
  • Hand Sanitizers – Products are considered over the counter drugs and are subject to FDA guidelines, not GHS compliance
  • Skin Care Products – Treated as cosmetics and follow FDA regulations
